The NC State Department of Materials Science and Engineering is pleased to announce that Peter Liaw, Ivan Racheff Chair of Excellence at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, will deliver the 4th Annual Carl and Carolyn Koch Lecture on Thursday, October 31, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Liaw, a world-renowned researcher in high-temperature alloys and high-entropy materials, will present a talk titled “An Introduction to High-Entropy Alloys (HEAs) and Superior High-Temperature Strength in a Refractory HEA.” This lecture will explore how advanced characterization techniques and computational modeling have revealed key insights into the strength retention of CrMoNbV high-entropy alloys at elevated temperatures, a breakthrough with significant implications for aerospace, energy, and industrial applications.
With over 1,400 publications and more than four decades of contributions to materials science, Liaw is a Fellow of ASM, MRS, and TMS and a two-time Clarivate™ Highly Cited Researcher. His research has shaped global understanding in the fields of structural alloys, metallic glasses, neutron scattering, and fatigue behavior.
This prestigious lecture series honors the legacy of Professor Carl Koch and brings prominent voices in materials science to NC State. All faculty, students, staff, and guests are welcome to attend.
