New Statistical Approach for Structure Refinement

We recently implemented a Bayesian statistics and sampling algorithm approach for structural refinement using diffraction data. This was a really fun collaboration with some statisticians and mathematicians, and is an area in which we are still working. “How Atoms Dance in Dielectrics”

We’ve published a new characterization capability to measure local structure of dielectrics in response to electric fields. Research Triangle Nanotechnology Network (RTNN)

Australian undergraduate students at NC State

Five undergraduate students from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, performed 8-week research/training experiences at NC State under a new international exchange program. Two of these students, Ralph Bulanadi and Amanda Lai, were in the Jones group. Origin Case Study

A case study in the use of Origin software for diffraction was recently written by graduate student Jason Nikkel. The case study, posted on the Origin website at http://www.originlab.com/index.aspx?go=SOLUTIONS/CaseStudies&PID=2113, shows how he utilizes the Origin software to represent data obtained from X-ray and neutron sources to show small structural changes.
