Led by Professor Jagdish Narayan, our group advances the frontiers of materials science through the discovery and engineering of novel materials. With pioneering contributions in Q-carbon, diamond-related products, and semiconductor processing, we focus on atomic- and nanoscale synthesis, structure-property correlations, and device applications. Our work has produced over 1,000 publications, 40+ patents, and the mentoring of more than 100 Ph.D. and postdoctoral students, directly impacting emerging technologies and initiatives such as the CHIPS and Science Act.<\/p>\n\n\n <\/div>\n\n\n

Jagdish Narayan, Principal Investigator<\/h2>\n

Professor Jagdish Narayan, John Fan Family Distinguished Chair Professor, received his Ph.D. in materials science from the University of California, Berkeley. He worked as a Research Metallurgist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and as a Senior Scientist and Group Leader at Oak Ridge National Laboratory before joining North Carolina State University in 1983. He has also served as Director of the Division of Materials Research at the National Science Foundation and holds a Distinguished Visiting Scientist appointment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.<\/p>\n \n
