🧲 A leap in remote object manipulation ✨ Joe Tracy, one of NC State MSE`s professors and co-author, has helped develop a novel kirigami structure that responds to magnetic fields.

This innovation uses a flexible, dimpled surface to manipulate objects— including liquids— without grasping them.

⚙️ Why it matters:
Enables transport of objects in confined spaces where traditional robotic arms can`t reach.
Supports applications in delicate handling, advanced robotics, and more!

Two outstanding doctoral students from Martin Thuo’s research group have been awarded prestigious COMPASS funding for their groundbreaking projects!

🌟 These innovative ideas address critical challenges at the intersection of discrete mathematics and advanced manufacturing, tackling both fundamental scientific questions and practical applications.

NC State MSE doctoral student, DHANUSH JAMADAGNI, and University of Michigan scientist, Nancy Muyanja, PhD received $10K for their project, “Optimizing Percolation Analysis: Leveraging 2D Arrays and Graph Theory for Enhanced Correlation with 3D Tomography of Multi-Particle Systems.” This work promises to deepen our understanding of nanoscale networks and particle dynamics.

NC State Electrical & Computer Engineering doctoral student, Daisy Kiptoo and University of Southern California doctoral student Shixuan Li were awarded $20K for their proposal, “Integration of Vector Graphics to Enhance StructuralGT’s Graph Extraction and Processes.” Their project pushes the boundaries of software development and graph extraction, with enormous potential for advancing complex manufacturing systems.

These interdisciplinary projects embody the spirit of COMPASS, bridging the gap between theory and real-world applications. We’re excited to see the groundbreaking contributions Dhanush, Daisy, and their teams will make in these fields! 👏🔬
