14th Annual Robert Davis Lecture
Celebrating Innovation in Materials Science and Engineering

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at North Carolina State University is excited to announce the 14th annual Robert F. Davis Lecture, on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in the Hunt Library Auditorium. This prestigious event honors the legacy of Dr. Robert F. Davis, a pioneering semiconductor researcher and long-time faculty member at NC State.
Featured Speaker: Dr. Moungi Bawendi
Professor Moungi Bawendi, the Lester Wolfe Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an internationally recognized expert in nanomaterials, will deliver this year’s lecture. Dr. Bawendi, co-recipient of the 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, is known for his groundbreaking work on chemically synthesized quantum dots. His talk, “Quantum Dots: A Synthesis Seeds A Journey of Nano-Explorations,” will explore the origin and development of quantum dots, their fundamental properties, and their vast applications in bio-imaging, display technologies, and more.
Dr. Bawendi will also discuss the synthesis techniques that paved the way for the widespread study of quantum dots and their critical role in nanoscience. As one of the initial developers of the field of colloidal quantum dots, his contributions have revolutionized both the scientific understanding and practical use of these materials.
