Professor Veronica Augustyn is the Jake and Jennifer Hooks Distinguished Professor in Materials Science and Engineering and a University Faculty Scholar. Her research group focuses on materials chemistry and electrochemistry for applications in electrochemical energy, environmental, and optoelectronic technologies. Research in the Augustyn group is often focused around mechanistic insights into electrochemical mechanisms for the aforementioned technologies. Students and postdocs in the group receive training in materials synthesis and characterization, electrochemistry, and the use of in situ and operando electrochemical techniques, such as electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM), X-ray diffraction (EC-XRD), and electrochemical mass spectrometry (EC-MS).
She serves the materials electrochemistry community as a Scientific Editor for the Journal of Materials Chemistry A and is on the editorial advisory boards for ACS Energy Letters, ACS Electrochemistry, ACS Nanoscience Au, Energy Storage Materials, and Physical Review Materials. She is a Member-at-Large of the Electrochemical Society Battery Division. Finally, Prof. Augustyn is the faculty advisor of the NC State ECS Student Chapter and SciBridge, which develops renewable energy research and education collaborations between universities in Africa and the U.S. She is also the co-chair of the NC State College of Engineering Battery and Energy Storage Initiative.
